I just wanted to write a note to say thank you for your support this last year, for coming out to gigs, for setting up gigs or for getting in touch via my website – it truly is appreciated.
I believe the two most important things in life are our health and happiness and I wish these for you and yours in 2018.
We can do our best to be healthy but sometimes – even at that – it can evade us, however our happiness is definitely something I feel we can play a big part in. Mark Twain is a man I often look to for counsel and on happiness he wrote this:
‘To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with’
This is what you and the world of music offers me.
One of the complexities and beauties of life is that we never know what’s round the corner. The image attached is from my most recent tour in Japan with The Chieftains. This is Misako Koja and Uema Ayano – Okinawa folk singers who accompany their songs with a three stringed lute and sing in a pentatonic scale. We share so little in common and yet so much. I could not have told you this time last year I would be sharing the stage with them and hearing their music but I am so very grateful for the opportunity to do so. Nor could I have told you I would be writing my own songs – a scary but ultimately very fulfilling venture.
Who knows what opportunities will arise in 2018 but I hope you and I remain open to them. Le gaol.
