On the road in America

Currently I’m midway through a tour with The StepCrew visiting more cities in America that I’ve not seen before. It’s always enlightening. We’ve had 3 great gigs and it’s the first time the Crew have been to California. I think they like us. At the end of this week I and some of the dancers from the Crew will be going on to join The Chieftains on their 50th Anniversary tour. It’s going to be an exciting few weeks. Celtic Connections for The Captain

I have been head down in script for the past few weeks so have neglected to write for a while but happy to say that we are opening tonight at Celtic Connections at The Tron Theatre in Glasgow with ‘The Captain’s Collection’ a play written by Hamish Macdonald. It’s been a lot of hard work but plenty of fun too and I have to say I am fair excited. Matthew Zajac and I are acting and we are ably supported by the beautiful playing of Ingrid Henderson on Harp and Piano and Jonny Hardie on Fiddle, and of course our creative and production teams guided by Director Alison Peebles. It’s going to be a fun few days and then we hit the road again in May. Will post those dates soon. For more Celtic Connections details click here

I’ve been a busy bee and have uploaded mp3 players that offer you the option to listen to all the albums available for sale on this site. There are 9 albums for sale to date with a new one just listed – Open Secrets – recorded with members of the Global Music Foundation resulting in a rather bonnie version of ‘She moved through the fair’ amongst other treats. To listen to it and other albums pop along to the shop. Your comments are always welcome.

New mixes…

Currently working on the live mixes from the ‘Live in Lewis’ gig in my home town of Stornoway. Brian Mcalpine is working hard on them in Glasgow and we’re sending them on to the band for their thoughts and views. They’re sounding great and remind me of how special an evening and trip home it was. Will keep you posted about news of the DVD here.

Downtime..

Having a little bit of downtime at home. Time to catch up on all those little things that get left aside during tourtime. Home cooking and walks in the countryside. Do have a gig coming up this Saturday with Triona Marshall in St Kevin’s Church, Hollywood, Co. Wicklow. 8.30pm. Come along and I’ll share a song or two and receipe or two.

I was contacted today by a gentleman looking for the link on my site to lyrics and translations for the songs from my solo album. He sadly would be looking for a while as I’ve not added them yet to this almost new website. It’s a work in progress so lyrics, song clips and more gigs will be posted soon. (NB Must try harder…)

Triona Marshall and I have launched our album Red & Gold – Hooray!! We had a wonderful evening in the Trinity Capital Hotel, Dublin and performed in front of an invited audience of musicians, press, family and friends. Now we’re on the promotional trail. We’re off to Manchesterfor an interview with Jenni Murray for Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4 July 1st 10am. Tune in!
